Welcome to SAW

 About SAW

Somerset Art Works (SAW) exists to promote the visual arts and create opportunities for visual artists in Somerset by advocacy, promotion and development.

SAW is an artist-led organisation and Somerset’s only countywide agency dedicated to developing the visual arts.

Since 2002 SAW has worked with a wide range of partners to provide opportunities to take contemporary artists out to the community, to develop new audiences for the visual arts in Somerset.

The core of SAW's philosophy is to provide opportunities for artists and makers to make new work and in the process to engage with a variety of organisations, landscapes, communities, and to network with other artists.

Somerset Art Works offer an integrated membership service of support for practising artists: providing bursaries, organising commissions, supporting collaborative working, providing network and exhibition opportunities.

"In a county with few galleries, exhibition spaces and limited opportunities to experience the arts , Somerset Art Works supports the artist by making their work visible. This is not only through the annual showcase events but also through the diverse range of projects and initiatives through which they embed the arts within the community and give a platform to creative practice in Somerset." - Pauline Burr, Arts Development Officer, South Somerset District Council

Local Area Network (LARC) Events are back!

SAW has successfully received a grant via the Somerset Levels and Moors Local Action for Rural Communites to continue to provide training from our Hub in Langport and beyond for artists and makers wanting to promote their work to a wider audience. This also provides resources for SAW to actively engage with the tourism sector and provide more opportunities for promotion and collaboration with local businesses and communities. New events will start in June, looking at marketing.

Keep your eyes peeled for further details, coming soon to our news pages.
